About TrestleTree

Relationship, trust, and influence are words of conviction for TrestleTree, not convenience. The tale of TrestleTree started with a cord of relationships between one older brother who is a family physician, two best friends from college, and three retail pharmacies in Northwest Arkansas. The genesis of TrestleTree began in 1998 when Ted Borgstadt was a partner in a few retail pharmacies. The pharmacy customers were coming to get their prescription filled directly from visiting their doctor. The customers could tell the pharmacist what the physician directive was, but it was evident that most customers were not following through with what they knew to do.

A conversation began on Ted’s screened-in porch between Ted, his best friend from college and a clinical Psychologist, Clint Gabbard, and Ted’s older brother, Dan, a family physician in Fresno, CA. The three were out to solve the world’s problems on the porch, not to start a new company. Dan was clear that he knew the questions not to ask his patients because he needed to hustle and see the waiting patient in the next room. Clint commented that the customers knew what to do, but they were not following through, so it wasn’t a knowledge issue, but rather the real issue was a behavioral problem. This conversation was revisited over the course of a couple of years and a path started to become clear. What if we could create a unique training for health professionals that would give them the pragmatic skills of a psychologist to help patients change difficult health behaviors? How do we train health professionals to build a relationship of trust and earn the right to influence, versus the traditional approach for healthcare which is to lead with knowledge and inform patients what they need to do.

Informing patients only has a positive impact only on people that are motivated and ready to make a change, but does little to nothing to engage or change a person that is unmotivated and has given up hope to change. Our goal was to equip health professionals with the skills to influence positive change for people that habitually struggled to change. This is who we are at TrestleTree…. we are builders of trust, carried on the back of relationship, that will lead to meaningful, measurable, and sustainable health behavior change for anyone and everyone.
